Become an Ambassador

Turning Passion
into Purpose

When we unite our individual passions, we inspire incredible transformation.

Our Ambassador Community is what makes it possible to have a strong, uplifting network of care around our healthcare workforce.

Through our Ambassador Community, 300+ health workers, healthcare leaders, patients, and loved ones of health workers champion healthcare workforce mental health and wellbeing solutions directly within their own communities and organizations.

By harnessing their local influence, our Ambassadors are driving lasting systemic change for our healthcare workforce’s wellbeing and mental health.

Transforming

TRANSFORMING THE FUTURE FOR OUR HEALTHCARE WORKFORCE

Our Ambassadors work within their own communities and health systems to implement operational and cultural advancements that support our health workers’ wellbeing and mental health, such as removing intrusive mental health questions from licensing and credentialing applications, ensuring that seeking mental health care is a standard and supported practice.

Meet our Ambassadors

Our community includes an incredible blend of experiences and backgrounds, from health workers and their friends and family, to healthcare executives and patients. We’re all united around caring for the people who care for all of us.

“The involvement as an Ambassador has helped me work through defining the problem of burnout in a way that allows me to understand potential interventions that I can assist other physicians with if they need help managing their day to day. It also forces me as an administrator to combat situations where moral injury may be developing in my organization.”

Anthony J. Frank, MD, MBA, SVP Medical Affairs / Chief Medical Officer

“Being an Ambassador has allowed me to become embedded in the movement to destigmatize health worker mental health, and I am so grateful for the work we all do together towards a future where every person with mental health conditions has the tools and support they need to thrive.”

Devika Bhushan, MD, Pediatrician, Public Health Leader

“The most meaningful part of being an Ambassador has been connecting with a passionate community of healthcare professionals, advocates, and allies who are working toward the same mission. Participating in advocacy efforts and hearing the personal stories of those impacted by burnout and mental health conditions has been both humbling and inspiring, reminding me that meaningful change happens when people come together to support one another.”

Joanna Barrett, Licensed Mental Health Counselor

“For me, the most meaningful part of being in this community is simply knowing I’m not alone in advocating for the wellbeing of the people providing care on the frontlines. We give so much to everyone else, and sometimes it seems like no one is talking about how to protect our mental health so that we can continue caring for them well. This community gives me hope that change will come!”

Kate Cozart, MEd, PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Primary Care

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to be a Dr. Lorna Breen Foundation Ambassador?
Being an Ambassador means turning passion into purpose by becoming an active, localized voice for our healthcare workforce’s wellbeing and mental health. It means standing alongside a dedicated national network of volunteers to remove the stigma surrounding mental health care in healthcare, sharing evidence-informed tools in workplaces, and helping leadership prioritize health worker wellbeing. Ambassadors act as a vital bridge between national initiatives and local impact, helping to build a healthcare system and culture that truly cares for its own.
Do I need to be a health worker to apply?
No, we welcome everyone who is committed to improving health workers’ wellbeing and mental health, from health workers and their friends and family, to healthcare executives and patients.
Can individuals who are not health workers truly make an impact in this community?

Absolutely. Some of the most powerful advocacy comes from friends, family, and patients of health workers who offer unique perspectives on why our healthcare workforce’s wellbeing and mental health matters to everyone. Every experience and perspective brings vital energy to our movement, helping to shift the culture of healthcare from multiple angles.

Is there a fee required to participate?
No, our Ambassador Community is a volunteer network of individuals committed to the mission of the Foundation.
Are Ambassadors paid for their participation?
No. Our Ambassador Community is an entirely volunteer-based community of individuals who are dedicated to supporting health workers’ mental health and wellbeing. While these are unpaid volunteer roles, the community provides learning and training opportunities for free, access to evidence-informed toolkits and resources, and a deeply supportive network of peers working together to uplift the healthcare workforce.
What is the time commitment?
While the time commitment is flexible and based on the volunteer hours you are willing and interested to spend, we anticipate a minimum of around two hours per month. This would include participation in virtual Quarterly Calls (typically held on the second Thursday of February, May, August, and November) as well as keeping up with our monthly community updates and engagement opportunities.
What specific activities do Ambassadors participate in?

Engagement is highly customizable based on your availability and interests. A few examples of engagements are:

  • For health workers and healthcare leaders, encouraging your local hospital or health system to participate in our Wellbeing First Champion Challenge program, which removes intrusive mental health questions from credentialing and licensing applications so teams can safely access mental health care;
  • For loved ones, improving understanding on why it’s important to support health workers’ mental health on social media or local community events; and
  • For everyone, emailing or meeting with your members of Congress to secure funding for Lorna Breen Act programs.
Do Ambassadors receive training?
Yes. Ambassadors gain access to Symphony, our virtual community platform. Symphony offers two required onboarding courses, access to on-demand resources and materials, and a collaborative connection space to share ideas and resources with fellow Ambassadors.
What happens after submitting an application?

Within two weeks of you submitting your application, our Coordinator will reach out to schedule a call to talk more about the Ambassador Community and how you’d like to engage. From there, we will work with you to complete our Ambassador agreement; and then subsequently, we’ll add you to our quarterly virtual meetings with the Ambassador Community and set you up in our virtual community platform, Symphony, where you have access to resources to be an effective Ambassador for health workers’ mental health and wellbeing.
