Take Action to Support Dental Professionals’ Mental Health
Like everyone, dental professionals deserve the right to pursue mental health care without fear of losing their job. However, overly invasive mental health questions in licensing applications prevent dentists and dental hygienists from seeking support and increase the risk of suicide. Dentists experience a higher rate of suicide than the general population, and historically have the highest suicide rate of any healthcare profession.
Join us in calling upon State Boards of Dentistry to be a Wellbeing First Champion and audit and change any inappropriate questions or stigmatizing language around mental health in their licensure applications that are not consistent with national best practices.
Together, we can ensure that dental professionals receive the support they deserve, unburdened by the fear of professional consequences.
